Search engine positioning/web marketing objective |
|
|
Marketing, it's all about researching, understanding, and anticipating the needs, wants and desires of people. In the physical world this is easier said than done. As the saying goes 50% of the advertising/marketing budget is wasted but which half? Enter the web, electronic commerce, and all the hype and hoopla. Million dollar budgets, ineffective SuperBowl and other commercials to achieve what? Search engine positioning and marketing is the key! Look at the adult industry, and other fringe businesses, and you'll see the technologies and methods that mainstream business will soon adopt. Pagers and cell phones adopted at first for illicit activities, only to be adopted by doctors, technology and gadget buffs, and then in to the mainstream. Remember when you first searched the web? Nothing but smut, search for "children's literature" and little blow peep pops up. Search engines, in the early days monopolized by the porn industry, and search engine positioning was labeled as SPAM, sleazy, not a respectable marketing vehicle. Times are a changin' Search engines and directories are wising up, mature content is filtered out, and people actively use search engines to find what they need. Through no other medium are you able to position a business right under the nose of someone looking for it. Not just a sign, not just your logo, but your store, your products, and the check-out line. Most firms call it search engine positioning, and focus on getting something, anything that even remotely resembles a web page to top the ranks, and bring visitors to your site. I prefer search engine marketing to merely positioning, gaining top ranks for keywords that indicate a propensity to buy, employing a continuous feedback loop to find what works and what doesn't. How bout' branding? Search engine positioning must recognize the importance of branding, present a consistent image on all fronts. Except for the medium, business hasn't fundamentally changed. Making it easy for people to buy, anticipate the consumers needs, and be there ready to serve the customer, when the customer wants to buy. How can you lose? My objectives are simple:
